Doja Cat shared disappointing news with fans Friday, announcing she’d have to pull out of upcoming performances after needing tonsil surgery.
The Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and performer told her Twitter followers Thursday she had a tonsil infection which was further aggravated after drinking and vaping. Doja Cat said the infection turned into a “nasty” growth leading her need surgery.
“Dr. just had to cut into my left tonsil,” she tweeted Thursday. “i might have some bad news for yall coming soon.”
Doja Cat, 26, delivered the bad news Friday.
“I wanted you to hear it from me first,” she wrote on her Instagram story. “Unfortunately I have to have surgery on my tonsils asap. The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take awhile (sic) due to swelling. That means I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour.”
“I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y’all,” she wrote.
Before announcing her tour cancelation, Doja Cat discussed how her vaping habit affected the infection and abscess and her plans to quit. She opened up about her nicotine addiction after fans told her to throw the vapes away.
“What makes yall think i cant go buy a 50 pack right now? Its not about throwing them away its about not needing them. Right now I NEED THEM. I don’t WANT them rn because im in pain. But my brain is addicted to it,” she wrote and followed up with another tweet writing, “That doesn’t help anybody and it just sounds condescending to anybody whos actually struggling w nicotine addiction.”
