The New York Times said it updated the answer to Wordle 324 because of its link to a significant news event.
“Some users may see an outdated answer that seems closely connected to a major recent news event,” said New York Times Games in a statement Monday. “This is entirely unintentional and a coincidence – today’s original answer was loaded into Wordle last year.”
Players must refresh their browsers to see the updated answer.

Several users on Twitter noted while some people were getting “shine” as the answer to Monday’s Wordle, others were getting the answer “fetus.”
The original Wordle answer popped up days after a draft opinion from the Supreme Court leaked suggesting justices might overturn the landmark abortion ruling Roe v. Wade.
New York Times Games said they discovered “fetus” as a potential answer last week and worked to replace it with an updated answer for as many players as possible.
“We take our role seriously as a place to entertain and escape, and we want Wordle to remain distinct from the news,” said the company in a statement. “But because of the current Wordle technology, it can be difficult to change words that have already been loaded into the game.”
This is not the first time Wordle has presented a daily puzzle with multiple answers. In March, the daily Wordle featured the answers “stove” and “harry.” The New York Times updated the puzzle to “stove” as part of an effort to remove “obscure or potentially insensitive words.”
