Adrian Peterson agreed to domestic violence and alcohol counseling after he was arrested earlier this year on suspicion of domestic violence.

“A pre-filing City Attorney hearing, as an alternative to prosecution, was held on Friday regarding the Adrian Peterson matter. Mr. Peterson has agreed to complete 20 sessions of domestic violence and alcohol counseling within the next 6 months,”  Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office spokesman Rob Wilcox said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports.

The free-agent NFL running back and his wife boarded a flight at Los Angeles International Airport bound for Houston on Feb. 13 when the plane was forced to turn around on the tarmac following an alleged domestic violence incident.

Peterson was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department and released on bond.

Peterson later said that the incident was blown out of proportion after an argument with his wife and she said that Peterson did not hit or strike her at any time.

The 36-year-old Peterson played in one game last season with the Seattle Seahawks, after spending time with the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Washington Commanders, Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans.

He has 14,918 rushing yards (fifth all-time) and has scored 120 rushing touchdowns (fourth) in his career.
