Jennifer came a week ago and we had a little fishing trip on the Blackwater River in Milton. Here is Emma with her prize catch. Jennifer wanted the kids to go fishing with me and Dad. I guess mostly because it is part of her childhood memories. We get to see the kids so rarely that I afraid they won't have too many of us here.So Dad and I loaded up the boat and grandkids and headed out toward memory land on the Blackwater river.
We never fish the Blackwater by the way. We always fish Escambia river when we freshwater fish. This time however there had been so much rain that Escambia River was muddy so off the Blackwater we went. With the kids securely buckled in the live vests Jennifer brought from home, we headed up the river and stopped for about 2 minutes. Emma got a bite and lost a small bass, then announced she was READY TO GO HOME! Home I asked? We just got here Emma! "I want to go home and see Momma! It's hot! This life jacket is too tight. I want to go home!!" And she was so cute with her whining, that I laughed at her and that my friends...ticked her off. Alex was not ready to go he wanted to fish! I let Emma call her Mom on the cell phone thinking that would help but nothing doing. She still wanted to go home. She did not want to be fishing. Well you know how demanding women can be at times (just kidding). So I told Jennifer to come and get her that we would go back to the landing and drop her off. To make a long story short, by the time we got back to the landing everyone was ready to go anyway. So...we went to the park section there and ate some sandwiches while the kids played on the swings.
While they wer feeding the ducks, the kids noticed there were fish in the little canal by the park. So we fixed a pole and let them fish off of the bank and you see the results. So much for boat fishing. Each time they caught one they squealed and screamed and then made us take the fish home so they could show their Uncle Joe. I hope they made some good memories. I did. |
